"In the spring of 2028, Doctor Miles Liebermann is heading for the Challenger Deep, in the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest known point in Earth's oceans. His team will commence the maiden dive of their experimental deep sea submersible; 'The Cousteau' soon as the surface weather improves for their ‘Mother’ ship. They will be diving some 10,994 meters (36,070 feet) below sea level: roughly, some six miles down. Mr. Tibbs is on the case because humans are really not welcome there....."
